Doodles 77

I haven't been posting many entries in the blog this week because I sent out a newsletter on Tuesday with a link to my photo of Atticus Cooper Phillips in his Beezer t-shirt. And I knew that if I continued posting every day, the link would take people to my blog, but they wouldn't be getting the photo they were expecting to see. So I was forced to keep my yap shut. It nearly killed me.

This ACEO was also made in class tonite, also using the Xyron machine and layering geometric print paper, then a transparent French sheet, and putting the cork lettering, frog and beads on the top layer. It adds a lot of depth by doing this layering and I love the look that it brings to cards. I had seen other artists doing this, but didn't know how they were doing it.

New ACEO

I took a class tonite at the local stamping store in order to learn some new collage techniques to create a new style of ACEOs. This class was actually about ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) and at least one person there tonite thought that these ATCs were a brand new idea that some fellow in Europe dreamed up a couple years back.

This is not true at all. This is a centuries old tradition. Of course, the old master painters back then did original sketches or paintings and not collages, as many ATC artists do today. Matter of fact, these old masters would sometimes paint an ATC-sized painting of a man's mistress so that he could carry this picture around in his pocket without the wife knowing about it.

During our class tonite, I learned how to use a Xyron machine and red-line tape with a beading process. This card that I am posting here was made using the Xyron machine (which applies glue to the surface of your item)to affix the green textured paper onto the back of a playing card. Then I Xyroned on a layer of chinese figures that had been printed on transparency film. The dragonflies are actually brads that are affixed thru holes punched into the card. The yarn on the right and the letters on the left are also glued on.

Atticus & Beezer

TA DA!!!!!!!!!!!! Here he is ladies and gentlemen! Atticus Cooper Phillips in his very own Beezer t-shirt! Don't they make an adorable pair???

Anyone familiar with my frog series will recognize that frog on Atticus' t-shirt. I made the frog, but some friends of mine are responsible for Atticus. What a character this guy is! When Atticus made his entrance into the world back in November, he weighed 10+ pounds...if you can believe that. He looks like he's a baby linebacker, doesn't he???

My new camera!!!!!!!!

I bought myself a Nikon Coolpix camera tonite on sale at Walfart because they were discontinuing this model. 5 megapixel is no longer the hot item...they have jumped up to 7 and 8 already, and I don't know what happened to 6.

I am totally impressed with the ease of use with this little camera. It's like having a second cell phone in my hand, only I like this one better because it doesn't talk to me. I turned off all of the sounds and bells and stuff first thing because I hate all of that, much as I hate telephones.

These are the first images that I shot with the new camera, and although they leave a lot to be desired, just the mere fact that I was able to take the camera from the box, shoot, download the photos, and rework them in my JASC program...well, this is a minor miracle in itself! I'm proud not only of myself, but also this eensy little camera.

Now I will be able to shoot photos of my newest works almost before the paint is dry! No more scheduling with my son around his work schedule and driving for close to 2 hours to have the shoot done, only to have a battery run out of juice, or his camera acting up and we can't get a good shot. HOORAY!!! I now can go out and shoot as many photos as I want to anytime I want to and play around as much as I want to.

There are times when this modern technology is absolutely wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Florida 15

This is the before and after on my Florida 15 painting. It has been in my eBay store for far too long, so time to spruce it up and move it out!

Busy Friday

I was up until 2:00 am painting again last night. I'm flinging paint around in here like there's no tomorrow. I have already redone 6 of my Florida paintings that are now in their second incarnations, and who knows how long they will exist in this current state?

A couple days back I laffed out loud because I looked in my eBay store and discovered that someone had 9 of my Florida paintings on their 'watch' list. I guess they were trying to decide whether or not they wanted to buy them, because the price never changes on the store items, and I have 'make best offer' on all my store listings. This way people can suggest a price and I can decide whether or not I will take it...sort of a barter system.

But this isn't why I was laffing...I had already taken 4 of those items and repainted them and hadn't removed them from my store. So you can bet that I remedied that very quickly by pulling them out of the store before someone could purchase them. They don't exist anymore...only as prints. The originals are ghosts of their former selves. You could find them buried under another layer of paint if you wished. So whoever is 'watching' the remaining items had better buy them fast because they won't be that way for much longer since I am planning a trip to my storage unit soon to pluck out the remaining Florida pieces and bring them home for their transformations.

Someone else might think that I am crazy for changing artwork that has attracted interest. But to me, if you see some artwork that you REALLY like...you buy it. If the price is right, you don't sit and think about it, you just do it. If the artwork really moves you and creates the desired effect, then you are willing to do whatever you can to get that image in your possession. This is what I am striving for...people see it, they want it, they buy it.

And I won't rest until a majority of my artwork is of that caliber. I have a long way to go to get there, but if I live long enough, I will make it.

Florida 32

I have been redoing several of my recently completed Florida paintings and removing the tree trunk lines because they were too distracting. I am liking these simplified images a lot better...and in some of them I am not even making the trees green again...just leaving them black.

$7 million Picasso

We had ourselves a good laugh this week in our eBay group about the supposed original Picasso that was listed there and the individual who actually bid on it. Who knows if it was real or not...real auction? real people? eBay laughed all the way to the bank on the listing fees, though, that's for sure.

The prices that some people are willing to pay for particular art items...amazing. And it's a known fact that a certain percentage of these supposed 'rare and valuable' paintings are forgeries. It's all in the game.

I've heard it said by many people that the old masters knew how to paint and that in modern times no one knows how. What baloney. People that say that obviously haven't looked at much of the artwork that is available today at shows, in galleries, or even online. Those old masters are alive and well today and painting again...the work proves it.

Me, I'm still working on bettering my skills.
