Downsizing the blog
I have now removed over 200 posts from my blog. I first began this blog in September of 2005 and had over 615 blog entries posted. When I was looking at some old stuff this past week, I was HORRIFIED by some of the artwork and some of the entries that I had made in my blog.
I get sick of hearing myself ramble on and on about my viewpoints of life and livingness, so I can't even imagine what other people must think, for god's sake. There are still some pretty weird paintings and art pieces in my blog, but at least I got the really bad ones out. 6 months from now, I will probably be deleting even more, who knows.
I found out today that my art video entries are not being considered for the first YouTube art show in October. Boswell Gallery in Georgia is doing this one. I still have until July 1st to enter more videos, so I will try again. It is disheartening, though, to have another gallery turn me down.
Another project that I have been working on is removing the group artist videos from my Channel. There was a bit of a kerfluffle about some copyright issues, so I contacted many artists and group leaders to see if they wanted to move the videos to another YT Channel. A few were saved.
Many others were not. At one point I had over 50 artist group videos on my Channel. Now there are 9 left and they will all be gone by this weekend. As I was relooking at my blog from earlier in 2007 I saw that I was so excited and exhuberant about putting artists' video in YT. It never caught on with the people that I got involved.
Oh well...
How to ruin your hair in one easy step
I am a fortunate person in that I have hair made of steel. Over the years I have done the wildest things to my hair, and it is so resilient that it just stays strong and continues to grow.
I have my grandmother's hair. Even at the age of 93 Gram still had a full head of hair and it was not thin, either. She had a really thick growth on her skull, and I'm lucky to have inherited her genes.
Today, for instance, I forgot I had put some bleach on my hair to give it some highlights on top. 3 1/2 hours later, I suddenly had the brilliant realization that I had forgotten to remove this bleach. I was expecting the hair to break off in my hands or come out in handfuls in the shower, but neither thing happened. It looks totally normal...just a few highlights on the top. Whew. That was a close call!
My poor brothers inherited Poppa's genes, and in their 30's they all got very thin on top. Some of them today actually have real live bald spots.
I have the kind of hair that grows like grass....I'm serious! You can practically see the dang stuff growing if you stand and look at it long enough. Along with the 5-6 cowlicks that are up there on my bean, I have this wild-ass looking crop of hair that I wear fairly short. Even when I go in with my little nail scissors and start whacking out some sections to try to control those swirls up there, in a week that area will have grown right back in.
It's hilarious, this hair of mine. ...
ACK! I've lost some artwork
In my zeal for dekludging my art studio recently, I have misplaced Tim Somnia, Zelda and Cool Cat. I have hunted and hunted. Even took to looking in other areas of my home, where it is highly unlikely that I would have stashed these small paper artworks...all to no avail.
My home is NOT that big! How I can even lose things in here is a mystery in itself. But that simply proves to me even more that my downsizing project needs to continue. How I ever accumlated this much STUFF I surely don't know. It's easy to do it, however.
Those impulse buys of art supplies, books and magazines that really strike a chord with me when I am in stores...they all pile up much too quickly. And in 95% of the cases, I don't even USE the items for months or even years because I have too many other projects that are either unfinished or on the list to get started.
Being an artist that works in many mediums and styles can be a huge disadvantage at times. I see these images everywhere I go...."Oh, I want to paint that!". Things come flying in and zing around in my thoughts and I get these great ideas of incorporating them into something else. I used to keep a list of bright ideas, but that got so long that I had to stop doing it for a while to give myself a chance to catch up.
It is definately time for me to sign up for another art class. I usually paint a lot more when I am in a class and I can complete them lickety split, one right after another. Or at least get them to a point of nearly completed. That way I could at least feel like I was making progress on my Bright Ideas list.

A brand new project for 2008
An acquaintance of mine recently suggested that I write some children's books about my frogs. People have suggested this to me in the past, but I had no interest in it at all. Now it sounds like a decent idea.
I have never fully understood why my frogs haven't been MORE popular than they have been because when I showed my paintings at outdoor art shows in the past, people would guffaw out loud. Adults, I'm talking about....not just children. I was so convinced that the Frog Series would be my most popular one that I made up about 50 more sketches of other frogs that I wanted to create in the future.
Sales were far short of what I was expecting. I assumed that people would want to purchase frog prints or tiles for their kids' rooms. I was planning to do a calendar and market a whole line of frog art items online.
When that didn't work out as planned, I began taking other art series of mine to the art shows, but none of them created the response that the frogs did. Here I am 4 years later going back to the fun and childish sense of awe and wonderment that makes me (and others) laugh. I definately need a good pick-me-up at present.
What could be more fun and entertaining than making up a story called 'Mimi Goes Shopping' ? This will all take place at Pond du Lac. I'm formulating ideas about this whole scenario at present and it could all change as I develop the story, but this seems like a good place to start.
Collaboration artwork with Amy
This is the artwork that Amy Weber and myself created for the winner of the last pet video contest. That was contest #8 and the winner was Nyissa64.
The video showing this artwork and its creation can also be found at this location. Amy added music to her first half of the video along with images of her work in progress.
My portion of the video, however, was nothing that fancy. I hope to be able to do some time lapse videos while I am working on artwork in the future, but I'm not there yet. Still trying to master my new Mac, and I'm not finding it all THAT 'user friendly' so far.
I've been tagged...
There has been a little game of tag circulating thru YouTube so far this year. If you get tagged, you are supposed to make a video of yourself disclosing 5 'facts' about yourself. And then you are supposed to tag another 5 people who are to do the same thing.
So here I am...in a situation of having to make yet another video which I can hardly get done. Waaaaay behind on the pet contest #9 and getting that started. Other facets of my life also appear to be careening out of control, too. I was up at 5 am this morning working on cleaning and dekludging my home because of the havoc that was wreaked in here during my illness. More stuff going down the trash shute down the hallway. Hooray!
Miss Pollyana and her rose colored glasses here, has stumbled upon numerous people already this year that have been in depressions or major illnesses right out of the gate for 2008. Urg. Apparently I wasn't the only one to go thru a recent period of negativity and whatnot. Luckily, I am moving out of that frame of mind again and regaining some hope for the future and life.
Who the hell doesn't go thru these periods of introspection and super sadness, that's what I want to know. There are varying degrees of this, for sure. But I know of no one that doesn't experience this side of life at some point in time. Just roll with it, baby. And know that it's all part of the game of life and don't freak out about it.
